About Us

Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna is a 88-bed, not-for-profit facility operated by Adventist Health System (AHS) (www.adventisthealthsystem.com) as a joint venture with Emory Healthcare.

The hospital was founded in the early 1970's when a group of physicians recognized a need for a hospital in Smyrna. On June 3, 1974, the hospital (then known as Smyrna Hospital) admitted its first patient. Adventist Health System purchased the hospital in 1976, and it became the first health care institution in the Atlanta area to be affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Adventist Health System, the largest Protestant religious hospital system in the United States, owns and manages hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, health care systems and an array of other services in approximately 20 states.

Through a 1995 joint venture with Emory Healthcare, Emory-Adventist Hospital became the first hospital in Atlanta to be co-owned by two leading health care providers--AHS and Emory.

What Sets Emory-Adventist Hospital apart?

Along with the benefits of association with Emory University and the recognized excellence of the South's leading tertiary care hospital, the joint venture makes it possible for the shared mission of the hospitals to succeed. Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna is a Christian facility, which cares for the needs of the whole person-body, mind and spirit. Commitment to the hospital's faith-based mission ensures that the business of medicine works hand in hand with the art of caring.
